They are little applications that can be used on the Desktop. I believe there is a Google and Yahoo desktop and also Vista has one called a sidebar.

they are applications that are like little online pets kinda… the dont really do much and get boring quickly

a widget is mostly a MAC phenomenon. they are mini programs designed to do hundreds of different tasks- everything from checking the weather, to looking up gas prices, to reporting the health of your computer, to things as silly as a fish tank or fire place, right there for you to enjoy.
widgets are brought to the front of the screen by pressing certain keys on your mac. they save time by basically doing the jobs of several other applications- and theyre all right there, immediately available.
windows has started a similar set of mini programs, but theyre no where near as integrated and advanced as macs widgets.
everybody is using widgets now- google, last.fm, yahoo, everybody.

widgets are programs that you download off of various sites
they are these pointless little things that you put on your desktop to help you
you can get many different widgets, some are practical~like the mail checker~some are for beauty, like the little lady bug that you can have crawling across the screen~and some are for fun~like the basketball games, and the suduku
there are many sites that use widgets
the main one is the Mac, but i dont have a mac so i dont know how they work
Yahoo, is the main provider of widgets for me
to install it first go to
http://www.yahoo.com/widgets
then click “Install Now”
it will take about 2 mins to load
then you have to download any widgets that you want
but the only way to really know what a widget is is to download some

as for the use of widgets…………..
well, there are some widgets that let you check the price of gas anywhere in the world, and the mail checker will tell you how much new mail you have, with out having to be on the yahoo site, or having your horoscope right there when you turn on the computer
there are so many widgets that its hard to tell you the practical aspect of every one of them
but some widgets just kinda relax you
you can get many beautiful widgets, such as fish and lady bugs and birds swimming, crawling and flying randomly around the screen
and as i said before some are more for fun, you can download mini-games

ok i know you didnt ask this but i am going to tell you reasons why you should get widgets:
ok, really there is only one downside to installing widgets, if your computer isnt vary strong with memory and that kinda stuff, they might not work properly, basically what im saying is they take up alot of memory
but, if you have a really good computer, there really isnt any downside
you can use them when you want, and when they are most practical
and you can use them for fun, beauty, or practicallity (ok i know i have already told you that like 4 time so i wont go into the details again)
