horoscopes and zodiacs aren’t always right and even though they say which zodiacs are best compatible with eachother, they sometimes are still wrong with that coz a star sign that is not meant to match can end up working and being the best match and vice versa… so i say it all in the individuals personallity and how it attracts you.. the person could not be compatible with yours but if your personalities connect and you enjoy being with that person and everything else that person i say go for it, but if it is supposed to be a love match and the person drives you up the wall then follow your heart and not what some sign says… its all up to you to decide in the end if you love that person for their qualities and not just coz some sign says you were compatible or not
You can use it as a blueprint but seriously, don’t let it control your life. For instance, I am a Sag in a relationship with a Scorpio. Technically, we are not the greatest match, but we love each other and work it out. If we are not meant to be, it would not be because of our signs. And even the most perfect matches have there problems. Use it as a blueprint and for fun, thats it.

well just sun signs do very little to show a good relationship. the parts most astrologers will look at in a relationship is synastry. or where the two people can show potential and where there faults will be. the most important parts are the 5th 7th and 8th houses, and the position of venus (romance), mars (passion) and mercury (communication).

It’s my opinion, based on personal experience, that astrology CAN be very useful with regard to relationships – if applied correctly.
Firstly, consider that you have a distinct, individual personality. And some other people have very different personalities to you! I think everyone can agree on that much.
And since you have a different personality to others, there are some people you’ll get on better with and others you’ll have a hard time being around. I don’t doubt that you’ve noticed this in your own life already.
I’m going to assume that you don’t reject astrology out of hand. Perhaps you’ve even had a proper birth chart done, and you’ve realised that the analyses afforded by astrology can be very detailed and exact. If not, go to http://www.cafeastrology.com, or http://www.chaosastrology.net for a free natal chart.
If one is able to determine the personality of oneself, as well as that of a partner, through astrology, then it makes sense that by comparing the two charts one could predict certain factors of the relationship.
There are many factors which astrologers look at in assessing compatibility. I’m sure you’ve seen those “which sign should you date” web pages, which will make a recommendation like “taurus and capricorn are a great match” or “avoid dating a cancerian if you’re a sagittarian”. You may have found that those don’t really seem to work very well when it comes to real relationships.
The reason is that those compatibility tests are only comparing the Sun signs of two people, when really there are 9 other planets (plus asteroids and more) to take into account as well. The Sun represents our ego and individuality, but that is only a part of our personality. Which is why this type of astrology usually falls flat.
For example, what about your emotional nature? The PLANETS in astrology usually refer to WHAT energies need to be expressed, for example the Moon relates to the emotional nature. The SIGN refers to HOW the energy of the planet gets expressed. So for example, if I have Moon in Scorpio, my emotional nature is very intense, passionate, jealous and penetrating (briefly put).
Comparing the signs which your planets and your (prospective) lover’s planets are in is a good place to start. Basically (and these are really the bare basics):
Sun – individuality, ego;
Moon – emotional and subconscious nature;
Mercury – mind, thoughts, mental nature;
Venus – beauty, partnership and love nature;
Mars – aggression, passion and sexual nature;
Jupiter – expansion, travel and learning;
Saturn – limits, responsibility, planning;
Uranus – originality, uniqueness, reform, liberty;
Pluto – change and transformation.
Look for the relationship between your respective Sun and Moon, and Venus and Mars signs to get an understanding of your romantic and sexual natures. For example, a man will often be attracted to a woman of his Venus or Moon sign, while acting in the way indicated by his Mars sign in order to obtain her. A woman may be attracted to a man of her Sun or Mars sign, while acting in the way indicated by her Venus or Moon to obtain him. Of course, the gender roles here are not cast in stone. But these are some important planets to look at.
Another thing astrologers look at are the angles formed between your planets and your partners planets (the angles are called aspects). There are “hard” and “easy” aspects, which will affect the dynamics of the relationship: basically they’re determining how the energies (represented by the planets) will play off of each other.
They don’t just look at the SAME planets, but all the planets in relation to one another.
For example, if my Sun is trine your Venus (+-120 degree angle between the two), we’re likely to get on very easily and comfortably when it comes to love and romance.
Whereas if my Moon is Square your Moon (+- 90 degree angle), our emotional natures will differ considerably, perhaps uncomfortably so. The area of emotions will be a constant struggle in our relationship, and achieving emotional understanding may be tough. There IS tremendous growth potential, but it’s going to be hard.
Some hard aspects can be good, but generally most people look for relationships that are at least a bit enjoyable as well!
Another area to look at is the HOUSES, which represent the AREAS of life through which your energies most strongly get expressed.
Does her Venus fall in your second house? Does your Sun fall in her 7th house? The houses can be useful in determining how well “aligned” your energies are.
The 1st house, called the ascendant or rising sign, can be an important house to compare.
There are numerous other tricks of the trade, indicators of passion, commitment, growth, trust, cameraderie, etc. which astrologers use. These include a composite chart (drawn up by combining your two charts into one, symbolising the relationship as an independent entitity); vertex comparison; midpoint comparison; nodes of the moon; interchanged signs; Eros, Psyche and Chiron aspects; the visual patterns formed by planets; aspect configurations, and many other points of comparison.
The application of astrology to interpersonal relationships is called synastry, and it’s an absolutely fascinating field to study. It can get exceptionally complicated, but it’s never dull.
A good idea for the open-minded skeptic would be to learn some basics of synastry, then get birth charts for some close friends who are in a relationship, and observe them to see how they relate – could you have predicted certain behaviours using synastry?
You could of course do this with your own relationship(s), but you might feel pressured to overanalyze your relationship, especially when at the beginner level of synastry.
In conclusion, astrology may be used (very successfully, in my opinion) to analyze the compatibility of two people in a relationship, but it involves a whole lot more than just comparing two Sun signs. Don’t go overboard with it either, though. Remember to keep your mind open and relax and enjoy the relationship!
