Question to the Horoscope board from a Science Standpoint?
This is mainly directed at everyone, So anyone can post there thoughts here. But please read this and hear Me out. From a Science point of view.
I mostly study Astronomy and hang around the Science section on Yahoo. And the occasional Astrology believer pops in every once and a while. And after so few I decided to ask a simple Question as to why You guys believe in Astrology.
I primarily studied Greek, Babylonian, Roman, Egyptian, Celtic, Indian, Arab and Ancient Mayan cultures. This is the History side of My education.
I also am in great interest in our Universe. So I love Astronomy and the study of the Stars.
But to those of You who believe in Astrology, How could it possibly work? Here is where My statement and Question really begins.
To Star based/Sidereal
In 3000 BC, The Egyptian Zodiac began at Taurus because the Vernal point aligned with that at the time. In Babylonian times, They assigned each constellation a month(These seemed to fit the Month pretty well) depending on which constellation the Sun was in, and of course in 500BC the point of Vernal Equinox was in Aries. Fast forward another few centuries and the Greek Zodiac began at 15 Degrees Aries(Which shows precession accountancy).
Almost every Culture besides the Greeks had 13 Signs Originally. In fact the Babylonians only had to remove Ophi because of their base 60 number System. It’s a fact Ophi is more inside the Zodiac then Scorpio is. Almost every other Arab culture kept 13 constellation accountancy because they had better mathematics systems in place(Celtics are maybe perhaps an exception).
So to Star based Astrologers/Sidereal crowd, How do You account for the fact of Your accuracy by not including Ophi? Most ancients including the Babylonians midway into they’re history incorporated it. So You claiming better accuracy is kinda misguided imho.
Now to Seasonal/Tropical believers. I understand You’re point about seasonal version that Ptolemy made.
But how is it consistent with varying climates even inside both hemispheres? I’m From the great White North(Canada), And We have 7 Month long Winters in a lot of areas( Mid November-Mid May). If You’re going to cycle through seasons, Shouldn’t people born in a Winter climate more north have a different Sign then someone Born in let’s say Florida or Arizona where it’s still boiling hot? And what about opposite seasons at the Equator? The United States itself is known for it’s massive weather layout and variation: Hot, Cold, Tropical, Barren, Moist/Wet etc…
I’m just trying to be rational here, I don’t mean to be discriminatory about the whole Science vs Religion argument. I think You guys can Believe whatever You want and I support Your Liberties to find what works best for You =)
But these are just easy simple issues. Also the fact of who made the descriptions for the Planets? Someone had to have come up with that. And Every culture saw each Planet differently then others(The Romans.Germanics, Greeks, Celtics and so forth and a good example of this).
I’m just saying isn’t it better to have a belief system where You are in control of who You are? I mean You’re all greatly independent people who many different personalities. It just seems kinda saddening to Me that You need to evaluate Yourself in this fashion.
It’s a Biological fact You’re alive 2-3 weeks after conception, Why isn’t this accounted for? Shouldn’t then all the Signs You where growing under have an effect on You? That would actually make more sense to Me.
Feel free to post Your opinions, I would like to hear them! Thanks =)
@hellord: I agree, both are arbitrary and require belief. Star Signs and Seasonal Signs are both defined on either Arbitrary Zodiac Constellation houses or Arbitrary starting points for an area’s seasonal climate. Neither are accurate.
@Axeminer: DNA is passed through a combination of Phosphorous, Oxygen, Carbon, Nitrogen and Helium held together by the carbon bonds. Atoms are not effected by Earth’s Magnetic sphere based on what time You fell out Your Mom’s tunnel.
How does the mechanism work? Science requires these tests be taken into account. I’m not saying that You’re wrong, It just needs to be verified. It’s the same issue I have with the Creationists, They claim Dinosaurs and Humans lived together and We don’t find Human begins or Dinosaurs in the same Geologic layer. They have no mechanism for explaining this phenomenon. A Model needs to be proven as fact before it can fall into the realm of Science.
@aspicco, I understand that You are very dedicated and faithful in You’re art. And I’m happy to hear You have Clients that have had success. I know of Astrologers who account for a persons shifting in personality, Growing and becoming who they are(Or Shifting into different houses as they evolve). But I just think that can be said about anything. I could say Christ has lead Me to change Myself and make Myself a better person by making Me Love those around Me and care for them greatly. And I know about the one sign thing is garbage in the Pop Magazines. I actually take great interest in many outlooks on life whether Modern or Ancient. I do trust Your honesty.
@Chain, I mostly Agree on the basis with most of the Scientific Community because just like I stated about History: Most cultures had much more advanced Star Navigational Systems then Ptolemy did.
Let’s remember the Greeks put forward a Heliocentric Model in 300BC. The fact that Astrological method and Systems are inconsistent is solid proof it’s based on personal belief. Just as much as October 31st being the Celtic/Gaelic Day of the Dead. Let’s also not forget The Celts had a 13 Month Lunar Calendar and actually had a very accurate measurement of the 13 Constellations in the Zodiac.
@Karen….What the ****?

TRUTH ABOUT ASTROLOGY
Astrology is humanity’s oldest and most precise mindmap. It cannot, however, accurately predict events. THE STARS’ & THE PLANETS HOLD HALF THE ANSWERS: YOU HOLD THE REST! Choices you make within the astrological environment determines what actually happens to you.
We are ALL FREE PEOPLE WITH FREE WILL. No rigid, fatalistic prediction can bind us. There is no astrological event so baleful that creativity, intelligence, and honest self appraisal cannot turn it to constructive uses and there is no configuration so glorious that selfishness and laziness cannot sour it!
The purpose of modern predictive astrology is to help people make better choices, to clarify the nature of the psychological terrain through which they are passing, and to serve as their ally in the endless, unpredictable task of creating the future!
Astrology CAN be mind boggling in its accuracy, but it can never consistently predict who is going to walk through the doors of your home, work or family environment. It doesn’t naturally speak the language of outward, concrete events. The future that astrology foresees with such startling exactitude, doesn’t always unfold in the world “out there.” It unfolds between your ears and in your heart!

Some people have a tendency to be practical some people are very imaginative and impractical.Astrolgy hardcore believers are the later ones. Some are only in it for fun(like me) but otherwise it is nothing better than a belief. It has no rationality and works mostly on chance. And these constellations are created by human beings.Different cultures have different constellations so constellation system fails anyway. And secondly the ptolemy system of seasonal astrology is only symbolic. It has no solid proof only solid beliefs. So astrology is basically a belief and may not necessarily be reality

A lot of what you quoted has nothing to do with how astrology really works. Traits are induced within people at birth due to the interaction of the Earth’s magnetosphere and a temporarily magnetized DNA at birth. The genetic code can be changed after conception by outside influence whether they be magnetic fields, temperature changes or stress situations for the mother.
The planets are just labels for the results of a physical mechanism that is very real but takes a long time to explain scientifically. Basically each zodiac sign comes with an unique a set of magnetic frequencies that interacts with the magnetic field of the DNA in a specific way that generating certain traits typical of that sign. This is done by turning certain genes on and others off
At the exact time of birth there is a huge change in oxygen levels throughout the body causing DNA molecules to become polarized thus creating a magnetic field within DNA itself. These molecules are shaped like supercoiled solenoids which makes the induced magnetic field even stronger. Magnetic fields interact with one another and since the Earth’s magnetic field vibrates this interaction will cause sections of DNA to vibrate. Different parts of the DNA have different natural frequencies of vibration and if any of the natural frequencies that are associated with each Zodiac sign match those of the natural frquency of a section of DNA resonance will occur causing relatively large increases in amplitude in the degree of vibration resulting in tempoary splicing of that molecule.and after it rejoins again the DNA is changed. Different frequencies change different sections of DNA thus changing different traits thus each zodiac sign is associated with trait alterations.
The book listed below explains this mechanism in its entirity in nearly pages among alot of other things.
I’m aware of what you’ve stated but the change in the Earth’s axis has nothing to do with how genetic changes are made at birth and which signs these changes are induced through

I have been a professional astrologer since 1986. I have done hundreds of chart readings and I have hundreds of satisfied clients. I practice Tropical Western astrology according to the tenets & principles I have studied. I have never ever practiced any sort of chicanery.
I prefer to believe my own personal observations. You can cite anything you like, but I know what I know via direct experience.
The astrology I practice fully accounts for free will. I look at a person’s chart, I see their potentials, their strengths, some areas of life where they still need to evolve and grow, and counsel them accordingly. I encourage them to take charge of their lives using the skills and abilities they have. When I make predictions, they are not hard and fast locked-in events, and I accent the possibilities & options they have to respond to upcoming situations.
No, I have no idea how astrology works. I know of very few astrologers that actually belief the planets have any effect on us. All I know its, when I look at a chart and see certain indicators, the people involved will manifest certain traits. Think of it this way: if I look at a working analog clock, and see the big hand is on the 12 and the little hand is on the 4, I know it is telling me it is 4 o’clock, but I do not think the clock is causing Time to exist. It is merely a measuring device, an indicator.
Same thing with astrology. I know the position of the planets, the signs they are in, the aspects they make to each other, and all these indicate to me information about a person or a situation. Who knows why astrology works? I do know I have been using it since 1986, and it works.
You seem quite well-read on the topic, and have considered all the theories. Have you done any direct field research? Perhaps you might want to have three or more professional, certified, established astrologers do a chart reading for you.

Astrology is not a science; it’s more to do with psychology and has nothing to do with predicting things, (western anyway). It can help us find out lots more about ourselves and therefor maybe get a little bit more out of our life perhaps. I must admit the history doesn’t really concern me but I am interested in the solar system but I don’t know a great deal about it, I just find it all fascinating and very hard to comprehend the vastness of everything.
I’m a highly qualified mechanical engineer but haven’t worked in the trade for years; all thru’ my school years, higher education and career I was made to question everything, never to just do something because that’s the way it’s always been done and if something doesn’t work, then fix it but first you had to find out what was wrong and what caused it etc.
The reason I say this is because astrology is absolutely nothing like this, you either accept it or you don’t, there can be no proof or anything along these lines because proof is not needed. If we look at someone’s chart and maybe point out something about their character or anything else about them that may be a problem, this doesn’t mean that that person will take it on board and actually do something because of this but it may help them understand why they do things the way they do.
The position of the planets at the time of their birth is somehow inprinted in them somehow, I don’t understand how, but it doesn’t mean they’re destined to be such and such a person behaving in such and such a way, it just shows how things may be perceived or how they may act, react etc under certain circumstances. Life circumstances, free will etc, etc all have influences; as does parenting and the like but this is shown in a chart in some ways. If what a person is told is a load of rubbish, then it will be ignored or hopefully fed back to the person giving the info’.
Professional astrologers, (I’m not one obviously), usually talk head to head and discuss with you and sort of liaise, (if that’s the right word), with you and this is needed because just about everything in astrology can be seen in many ways and have different meanings for different people.
As for this site; this is not a good representation of astrology, as most people aren’t really that interested in astrology, more in dating and the like, which can lead other people into getting the wrong impression about astrology perhaps.
There is a difference in astrology according to where you live in the world. Someone born in Canada, the same time as someone born say in England would probably have planets in different houses and so they’d affect different areas of life.
As for the time when the baby is conceived; how could that possibly work, who’s going to know that, accurately anyway?
Finally, astrology works because it does, nobody knows why or how. Maybe one day science will catch up, who knows.
