The “daily horoscope” is the child of something called sun sign astrology. It’s intention was to make astrology, which is a very complex discipline, more accessible and less intimidating to the masses. Kind of like an easy introduction to astrology. Unfortunately, it has done as much damage to astrolgy as it has done good. At any rate, sun sign astrology is a characterization and should not be taken too seriously.
Aside from that, there are 3 main types of astrology: Chinese astrology (which is also more complex than being a dog or an ox), Vedic astrology and western astrology. Vedic and western are similar with the primary difference being that Vedic astrology attaches the signs literally to the stars in the sky whereas western astrology attaches the signs to the seasons. The two systems are still in the early stages of misalignment and time should tell if one is better than the other or if they both have strengths for different purposes. I haven’t studied much Chinese astrology at all so I can’t give you any insights.
The book you found may have been on moon signs. But that’s just as bad as sun sign astrology. We might call it “moon sign astrology”. They both isolate one part of a birth chart, which causes confusion and misunderstanding. Neither are a complete or useful “discipline”.
Synastry and composite charts are made when looking into compatibility issues. There’s also mundane, horary, electional and medical branches of western astrology.
Hope that helps.

Ummm….didn’t they like vote that sign off of the island, meaning they said that the whole new zodiac thing was a mistake?

There is such a sign as Ophiuchus, we just don’t use it. Find it on Wikipedia. It doesn’t have element, or description.

Though it is true there is really 13 constellations (not signs) in the current zodiac, astrologers do not use this. What is used is the zodiac of about 2,000 years ago. When the zodiac was a calendar for many cultures. Astrology must be 12 signs because it divides easy. Add or take away a sign means a prime number. that can not be divided at all. Can’t have back to back fire signs.
A little science fact and the casual believers freak.
“Aquarius is a miscellaneous set of stars all at different distances from us, which have no connection with each other except that they constitute a (meaningless) pattern when seen from a certain (not particularly special) place in the galaxy (here).”

An amateur astronomer who knows nothing about astrology caused this confusion. The global astrological community has no plans to do a thing about changing the zodiacs with which they work especially on the word of an astronomer. Astrology and astronomy are two completely different fields that haven’t had any association in over 500 years.
How that works for you is simple: Don’t look to change your Sun sign. You’re the same one you’ve been since birth, and that’s not about to change in your lifetime regardless of what year you were born or where.
Btw, as a point of trivia for you, Ophiuchus was one of the original constellations Ptolemy charted. If astronomers were so eager to add Ophiuchus to their work, they might also do well to add the other constellations they missed–including the other two constellations that border Ophiuchus as part of a whole constellation that’s formed by the union of Ophiuchus, Serpens Caput and Serpens Cauda. Hercules and Aquila also border Ophiuchus, but the astronomers haven’t bothered to note these either. Perhaps it’s just enough to confuse everyone–including some of their amateur practitioners? 😉
